Big Day Out Recap
Just got back from the Big Day Out and having finally eaten dinner at 11.30pm I am now here to recap the festivities while they are all still moshing in my brain.
Weather
Bleh hot and shiny... meaning Grace now has more interesting tan lines to add to the bunch... even though there were copious sun screen applications, nevertheless. Note to self.. next time bring a hat.
Also because of said hot weather the security guards kept spraying water into the crowd, whilst refreshing, the questionable nature of the water doesn't exactly make you want to be doused in the face with it.
People
As expected plenty of sweaty bogans to go around. They are really not fun to be around when in a mosh-pit type situations e.g. when myself and Alison were trying to get in front of the stage before Kings of Leon started. Got elbowed and crushed quite a bit.
Also bumped into quite a few familiar people, Andre and friends watching The Grates, Jason and gf Jenny at lunch time, Amanda Murray who kindly gave me a discount at Red Rooster and also Miss Loo [the more senior one] and their cousin Stoo [I think its spelt that way anyway..]
The Bands
The Greenhornes - cool band from Cincinnati Ohio, must now track down their albums... a trip to 78 records is needed me thinks.
Sarah Blasko - nice voice, album in the process of burning from Alison, she reminds me a lot of Missy Higgins.
Kings of Leon - really really great live band. After being smushed into the barracade to get in front of the stage the good music made up for the pain and bruises =)
The Living End - While waiting for Franz at the Blue stage, the Orange stage next door had the Living End.. I snuck over and got pics while they played classic yelling-type songs. Cos I'm a brat and I know everything and I talk back, Cos I'm not listening to anything you say...
Franz Ferdinand - for our patience we were right at the front for their set! Well like second or thrid row from the front... damn those tall people. Franz was truly great, they too sound really good live. [Auf Achse with three people playing the drums at one time was particularly cool]
The White Stripes - Alas at this point the mosh-pit got much more mosh-i-er. Too many people, lots of pushing and squishing. I stayed up the front while the very-slick-with-his-black-top-hat Jack White and the very-cool-with-her-hot-red-short-shorts Meg White played Blue Orchid. After that Alison and I got a bit trampled so the tank security guards pulled us over the barrier... thus truly providing a true Big Day Out experience. But still they were still el fantastico, even if we had to watch the rest of it from the big screen instead of up close.
That was Grace's day at the Big Day Out, she is now off to sleep till some time in the afternoon.
The End.
